pin 8 is a VCC and should be connected to 3.3v
pin 3 is a WP it can be connected to 3.3v to disable write protection. pin 7 is a HOLD/RESET. HOLD signal should be high for any operation with chip. If you perform an in-circuit operation then high level may pass to pin 7.
So, you should connect pin 8 to 3.3v to chip power supply, and leave pin 3 and 7 opened but keep in mind that the HOLD (pin 7) must be high and if buspirate can't detect a chip just connect pin 7 to 3.3v too.

If need be, use a breadboard to expand your 3.3v connections.

If I helped you buy me a latte!

Hi all, How about make jumper from pin 10 on bus pirate to connect to pin 3, 7, 8 on the chip?

Also, i dont think Pomona 5250 test clip for SOIC 8 pin will work in this case due to very tiny chip legs on mainboard.(macbook pro retina late 2013 i5 2.6 EMC 2678, MX25L6406E)
