That must be a 2015 model. Attached is the location of the BGA connection.

Actually this was answered in another thread and it looks like it checks out. The chip is right below the debug header.

i might be mistaken, but it looks to me like some sort of QFN-8 package.

Used a digital calliper to measure the chip and found the matching package. it is a ( 8-QFN (2x1.5) ) see picture attached. will post any news if i ID the chip.

That's what i think. after a lot of research i found 3 flash chips with this package. but none is more than 4mb! i will investigate the bare die next to it and get back to you with the results.
