I know a lot of you are wondering where this magical EFI chip is so here is a quick rundown of where the EFI chip is usually found. Now remember I don't just have an endless supply of Macs laying around so make an educated decision when locating yours.

What the chips look like:

For MBP's the chip is usually located on the "front" of the logic board. My consideration of the front is what you see when you remove the back panel. It is usually an 8 pin chip closest to a group of solder pads. See the below examples I pulled from various locations.

The MBA's are a bit harder, but still pretty identifiable. The chip is usually located on the "back" of the logic board. I consider the back to be the underside of the logic board after removing the back panel. It is usually near a V shaped notch and under the area where an unused header is. Please see the images below for an example.

The chip near the notch on the back side of the board. (Image of wires soldered down to the traces leading to each leg of the chip)

Images of the header on the front of the board. (Chip is under the header on the back.)

Hopefully this will give you a better understanding of what you are looking for. Please post your images of your EFI chip location and what model you have.
