If the chip is the same specification it should work.

I've seen 2015 a1502 with winbond and macronix chips.

I don't think MacBook Air has had soic8 since 2010, and MacBook Pro retina (15" at least) since 2014.

Check the data sheets for both and if spec and footprint is the same, I'd give it a whirl.

EDIT:
If you want something quick and easy, hop on eBay and order a preprogrammed chip. They're about 40x expensive as ordering blanks from arrow or the like, but you should be able to just drop it in and go. If you order a programmed chip, please share a read before you install (-:

Ahhh man. Can't you just sell the guy a flashed chip?

Dude, do you have a rework station or the means to solder the chip? If so, what you using?

Lol. I would be happy to sell a flashed chip.
But half the fun is conquering it yourself (-:

I have some mx25l6437e chips which are wson8 and should work just fine.

I hope he's got a rework station, or at the very least a damn fine toaster oven :woohoo:

LOL.... A good 350 degrees C should do it.

I ask because those cheap 858D rework stations are like £30 on eBay and are actually really good for the money. I use a Hakko FR810-B but started with a cheap 858D... It pulled me in a good £10,000 before I upgraded my work station.

If OP does not have a rework station:
I advise OP to get one. Crank the heat up to 430C and the air up to 7. Use the finest nozzle that comes with it.
I don't think the calibration of these things is worth a wank but they do the job as a starter

Yes I'm still rocking a cheapo 852++. It gets the job done.

I like to cut a square hole in tin foil or kapton tape before I go to town.

Which OS are you using?

Linux: "md5sum read1.bin read2.bin read3.bin"
Windows or OS X: find a free utility or compile and install md5sum
