Hey all - maybe a silly question. I have a few firmware images I'd be willing to pass on to the great GH05T but I (stupidly) wasn't thinking to keep track of the EMC these. Is it possible to pull these from the firmware so these might be useful?
No problem. I haven't looked through the firmware to find the EMC myself, but if you have an easy way of identifying the EMC within there can you share with me (and everyone) just for reference?
Maybe even better - the process to "clean" them since I was just looking through mine before I donated it to the collection, and realize there is a lot of personal information in there, e-mail, network names, etc. I would be hesitant to share that with others, but similarly am hesitant to remove much of it as I don't know how sensitive the system is to modifications (haven't had a chance to test this out yet). If you have a working process for cleaning them, I'd prefer to do so before adding them to the library.
It is not easy. All personal data stored within a special block, I called it 'Apple Specific Data Block' but personal data mixed with machine configuration data and make a separation of them sometimes just impossible. Some machine configuration stored within ME Region, is a 'unlock seed' serial number for late firmware versions. Might with time we are can find a way for full data clearing but right now no such process.
Likely we can replace valid data with fake data if found. Token.paul would know more about the actual vulnerability of the information. I am surprised it has network names and email address. Just fill that info in with fake info and it should be fine.
