Flash back firmware from Backup2.zip. You'll get password installed but this firmware should works for your MBA.
If this step will successful and MBA will run we can continue.
Go back to the one where you could at least boot to safe mode as you called it and then do a firmware upgrade from within the OS. BUT, before you reflash that one, add your serial so it knows what version to upgrade from and to. You will likely have to force it. But this will likely work.
Well... Very and very strange. Perhaps something damaged in hardware.
Ok, lets check what inside a chip. Post please output of this command:
flashrom -p linux_spi:dev=/dev/spidev0.0 -v test2.bin (I guess test2.bin it is your original dump)
Also try to reset the SMC.
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Plug in the MagSafe or USB-C power adapter to a power source and to your computer.
3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
On MagSafe power adapters, the LED might change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC or battery charge indicator should blink.
One other thing, would you like to provide photo of logic board around flash chip? With high resolution if it possible.
As advised
pi@raspberrypi ~/efi $ flashrom -p linux_spi:dev=/dev/spidev0.0 -v test2.bin
flashrom v0.9.8-r1890 on Linux 3.18.11-v7+ (armv7l)
Calibrating delay loop... OK.
Found Micron/Numonyx/ST flash chip "N25Q064..3E" (8192 kB, SPI) on linux_spi.
Reading old flash chip contents... done.
Verifying flash... VERIFIED.
I have also tried SMC reset no joy though
attached is the photo everything looks ok from a hardware perspective so not sure if it is hardware related.
Its as if the MAC is tryiny to boot with the fan trying to start and then it stops
So, you have a firmware which was on this MBA initially. You should to remember what you did 2 month ago, because problem has no related to a firmware or a BIOS chip.
The symptom is POST does not pass. After POST is passed display is light up and BIOS starts, if some element on the logic board failed then nothing happen.
Many reasons may be for POST failure, but in most cases it is hardware fault. Not with BIOS chip somewhere else... May be you tried to connect the RP to other not BIOS chip?
I have had a think into this and if im honest everything I did was in step by step with your video and guide which I studied a lot before attempting anything.
I took 5 reads of the chip before I wiped it.
Steps were
5 reads/backups
Edited the Dump and added my serial with notepad ++
1 wipe
wrote back to the chip
I defiantly didn't write back to the wrong chip although if this issue is pointing to a hardware issues than I may not be able to fix it if something has shorted on the logic board.
After some extensive research into finding the issue with my mac I came across this article which is a different idea of hacking the EFI password via a thunderbolt port.
Thought this may be of interest to you all and wondered if you might have any other ideas of anything else to try.
As it stand the CPU cooling fans spin up .. and then spin down a few seconds later after the flash back.
The exploit you ran across is of no importance here other than the fact it explains what you are able to tell from the fan spin up. Which we have already covered. You may try replacing the entire chip that has clean firmware on it as a last resort. I have no way of telling what the issue is if it was user error because I cannot trace your steps as I would do mine.
I have been rattling my brain for the past few months and still cant get this Mac working
I donated to your prototype and have tried to contribute as much as possible to your site.
Would it be possible to send this to you to have a look at my mac ? happy to pay for your EFI removal service
if this is ok with you, However appreciate you may not be able to get this working but as it stands have a mac
which is a paper weight.
Let me know your thoughts and what's the best course of action
Best and quickest way to get assistance here would be to feel free to create a new thread in the appropriate section of the forums that way it hits the top of the threads and then also everyone will know exactly what it is that you need help with
