I have a "MacBook Pro "Core i5" 2.6 13" Early 2013" "Model A1425 (EMC 2672)"

I'm pretty sure the 4.0.2 adapter is what I need to buy but want confirmation before I place the order.

I will post pictures of which clip belongs to which header when I get a chance.

Btw, that is a micron chip

It's not? I thought 25q064a was the EFI so color me stupid. Any idea where on this board the chip is?

Your EFI chip is on the underside of the motherboard as pictured here: ghostlyhaks.com/forum/attachment/316

That's the exact location of the chip pictured above.

EDIT:

Rejoice community for I was wrong lol.

That's a micron chip. I've never seen one in person, always winbond and macronix. Always. I've heard of it tho.

I found another thread referencing a MacBook with that chip and ifixit corroborates you.

My bad! Color ME stupid (-;

here are photos of 4.0.2 header/clip and 4.0.3 header/clip

4.0.1 looks VERY similar to 4.0.2 but doesn't have the two bars in the center

Thanks for clarifying.

For anyone that comes across this thread it should be noted that an SOIC adapter will not fit on the chip well enough got get reliable reads due to the smt resistors in close proximity. I imagine if you wanted to modify your clip you could force it but spend the cash and get the adapter.

The datasheet for the Micron chip (as of Jan 13, 2017) is here: pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/view/599612/MICRON/N25Q064A13ESE40G.html

I just ordered the clip and will try that with the Pi or Odroid C1 since the destroyer is out of stock and if I have issues I'll just get the destroyer when it's back in stock.

I have never had any issues with that model. If you have a problem with your clip fitting that resistor is easy to remove and re-attach.

If I helped you buy me a latte!

For what it's worth:

2010 is the only year MBA with SOIC8 package EFI chip

2011+ all have wson8 chip packages, which the Pomona clip is NOT designed for. The Pomona is designed for SOIC8 packages only. That's why the adapters were developed. :)

The adapter is the way to go. As CygnusX1 stated you can probably get the SOIC clip to work but it's far less work and disassembly to use the adapter.

therealjayvi has modified a pomona clip to successfully interface with a WSON8 package, however it also caused great damage.

i'm currently in the process of developing a custom clip designed to clip onto WSON8 chips:
