so i've got this a1502 emc2835 macbook pro retina, and it's iCloud locked, but has a non 4digit EFI pin. my brute force failed.

i've got the board out, and have located contacts for everything but VCC, and that resistor is so damned close i'm uncomfortable soldering to the leg.

has anybody gotten down on this model like so? if so, what's the way to handle that?

or should i just get out my hot air station and pull the chip? i've never done that before (with the intention of reinstalling the chip).

A couple of days I'll try to unlock the same exact MacBook
My friend said that tried to read dump from the chip removed from the board but dump size is 8.5 megabytes, and he was not able to read it with the help of his programmer
When I got this MacBook I will describe the issue in detail

I manage to get my hands on a 2015+ interface, but was never able to communicate with the chip myself.

I checked the data sheet for the mx25l6437e and the connections were right, but flashrom wouldn't recognize it.

I removed winbond chip from motherboard
I read the dump.
Removed place with a password.
Recorded dump to mx25l6406e (not winbond, to try if they a replaceble)
I set mx25l6406e chip on the motherboard
Turned MacBook ON and hit command + R
He no longer asks Efi password and I thought that everything turned out, but...
MacBook connected to WiFi and started internet recovery, downloaded it
and after all this, he asks me to enter a 4-digit PIN
All previous Macbook's downloads OS X but this one asks PIN, and now I do not know what to do?

removing password from EFI doesn't remove iCloud lock from EFI.

simply reset the NVRAM by booting with CMD/OPT/P/R (which you couldn't do before due to EFI password)

then you're all set!

so you pulled a winbond chip from your a1502, and installed an MX25L6406E?
that's awesome. my a1502 emc2835 had an MX25L6473E

isn't the 6406E taller with exposed legs, and the winbond/6473E surface mount?

Absolutely right winbond I removed and installed instead MX25L6406E
Winbond w25q64fviq is smaller and I soldered it on wires to try.

About ^isn't the 6406E taller with exposed legs, and the winbond/6473E surface mount?
You are right but the wires help to fix it, I have installed chip with legs just to check the result
Later I wrote a dump on nativ Winbond chip and installed it on the motherboard

I'm glad I could help you get it going.

I love your inquisitive mind! I find myself doing all sorts of stupid sh*t just to see if it works (-:

@kpax:

Do you have the chip removed from the a1502?

How confident are you that clearing PRAM will clear the iCloud lock? I'm about 4000 in on a brute force and don't really wanna start again.
