Thanks for info. Maybe you have worked with this chip before and can give me advice how to read/write it? I have removed efi passes from few MX chips but never seen this before

Who had worked with 12"? Please write have anyone reached to remove efi password on 12". Maybe anyone can tell with what programmers can be read/write this efi chip. Maybe anyone knows where I can find contacts of this efi chip on a board without removing it from board??

i believe that's a winbond chip. i am picking up another 12" this afternoon. i will have a look around for you, to see if it can be done w/o special clip or removing chip.

all of these chips, macronix, winbond, etc... they all behave similarly. i don't recall who, but somebody on the forum replaced a winbond with a macronix (same bin file loaded) and the mac worked just fine.

for those reading, i pulled this from the a1534 schematic:

it mentions above, there are three vendors, so i wouldn't be surprised if you find other chips than the winbond, however according to this sheet you'll find a winbond W25Q64FVBYIQ.

according to the winbond data sheet,

and i am supposing:

although the orientation of the writing on the chip indicates it may be vertically the middle eight. this remains to be verified.

i have a 12 on hand but it's not currently locked and i'm hesitant to pull the chip for no reason

*********************************************************************************************************************
EDIT
*********************************************************************************************************************

looking at the pads of the removed chip:

you can see the spacing of the pads is similar to that on the data sheet, which means the appropriate contacts should be right across the middle

Try this:

Power MacBook on to EFI lock screen, then close the lid. Connect all wires except 3v3 and GND. Try to read then. You probably will not write without setting WE.

Also you can try booted to iCloud lock screen and lid closed.

EDIT:

You must find a power state in which write is permissible.
Have you taken multiple reads and matched their checksum? Also verify your read against the chip.

Here is the pinout I've used successfully. Please do not mind the prototype adapter in the picture, and also please note:

THE PINOUT IS REVERSED HORIZONTALLY

As this is for the adapter end, not the logic board end. Unfortunately this is the only image I have on my phone.

I thanks .... but like i say in this topic ghostlyhaks.com/forum/macbook-pro-retina-2015-2016/681-macbook-air-a1534-read-dump-but-not-write " Im using cheap programer CH341. When i try to erase or write i have "The chip and contents are in disagreement."
I have select windbon W25Q64BV but if i try to audetect chip type. Programer detect MXIC - MX25L6405D but cannot write.
I don´t have desoldering BGA i try to program via pads pin out."
Possible this cheap programer cannot program the device. or i need 3.3V in pin 7 and 9 i have only 3.3 on pin 7. go tro try your sugestion.

12" MacBook should have 1.8v EFI chip not 3.3v

When powered off, you will need to supply 1.8v and ground to chip.

But I would suggest attempting to flash chip without power or ground in one of the power states mentioned earlier.

The EFI destroyer has functionality to enable write mode on EFI chips (-:
