I've reconnected the wiring a thousand times over:

Pin1 - 24
Pin2 - 21
Pin3 - 17
Pin4 - 25
Pin5 - 19
Pin6 - 23
Pin7 - 17
Pin8 - 17

wires are under 3.5 inches long including female connectors

I go: sudo flashrom -r ~/efi/test1.bin -V -p linux_spi:dev=/dev/spidev0.0

but I can't seem to get passed "No EEPROM/flash device found." I've tried disconnecting pin 7 and 8 to no avail! I have a MBPR with MX25L64063 chip and pomona clip

We need to know more about your setup and your model to be able to assist. I mean we have no clue what you are using as a programmer, what mac you have, what your setup looks like, what your voltages sit at, etc.......

Raspberry Pi Model B
Pomona SOIC8 the wires are less than 3.5-inches they were originally 20cm long until I cut them, and reconnected the female connectors by twisting the wires together. (photo attached)
I'm not sure what my "voltages" are but pins 3, 7 and 8 are twisted together into one female connector onto the pi.
Macbook Pro (Retina, 15-Inch, Mid-2014 EMC: 2881, 2.5 GHz i7) attempting to read "MX25L6406E" chip as I'm quite sure thats the EFI.
5v/2a power supply
clip hugs chip snugly and flush to the board and is getting proper contact

I've ordered 10cm cables from Amazon same day, they should be here sometime today to see if I can get a read with uncut wires.

EDIT:
I've connected and verified the 10cm cables, and the problem still persists.

Try this:
CHECK CONNECTION
sudo flashrom -p linux_spi:dev=/dev/spidev0.0

READ EFI
sudo flashrom -p linux_spi:dev=/dev/spidev0.0 -r ~/efi/FILENAME -V

WRITE EFI
sudo flashrom -p linux_spi:dev=/dev/spidev0.0 -w ~/efi/FILENAME -V

Do you have a folder called efi?

Also try holding the SOIC8 at an angle whilst executing the check connection line. And finally make sure you have the SOIC8 the right way round.

I have tried the commands but I still get the error.

I have also tried to maneuver the SOIC8 in different angles to no avail. I have checked the pins on the chip and SOIC8 and they are all getting snug contact. My wiring is spot on I'm sure.

I do not have a folder called efi. I usually go /desktop/test1.bin but the problem persists even when just checking the connection.

I've just tried it on a different Mac efi chip and it gives me the same error, whats your conclusion?

I would suggest at this point getting the chip ID and verifying it is readable and using the -c operator to specify that chip in flashrom as well as verifying the chip is compatible with flashrom. It also may be worth your while to check your chips datasheet and verify you are supplying the correct voltage to it as well as have the correct pinout.

Replied by p3nt4 on topic No EEPROM/Flash device found!
Hey. I am having a similar error. I am trying to flash a M25P64 chip, but it doesnt work, I get two different type of errors depending on the situation:
pi@raspberrypi:~/flashrom $ sudo ./flashrom -p linux_spi:dev=/dev/spidev0.0
flashrom v0.9.9-1-stable-f5dd7ce on Linux 4.4.50-v7+ (armv7l)
flashrom is free software, get the source code at https://flashrom.org

Calibrating delay loop... OK.
No EEPROM/flash device found.
Note: flashrom can never write if the flash chip isn't found automatically.
pi@raspberrypi:~/flashrom $ sudo ./flashrom -p linux_spi:dev=/dev/spidev0.0
flashrom v0.9.9-1-stable-f5dd7ce on Linux 4.4.50-v7+ (armv7l)
flashrom is free software, get the source code at https://flashrom.org

Calibrating delay loop... OK.
Found Generic flash chip "unknown SPI chip (RDID)" (0 kB, SPI) on linux_spi.
===
This flash part has status NOT WORKING for operations: PROBE READ ERASE WRITE
The test status of this chip may have been updated in the latest development
version of flashrom. If you are running the latest development version,
please email a report to if any of the above operations
work correctly for you with this flash chip. Please include the flashrom log
file for all operations you tested (see the man page for details), and mention
which mainboard or programmer you tested in the subject line.
Thanks for your help!
No operations were specified.

Something that I find weird is that powering the chip actually boots the os. I have tried with and without HOLD and Write Protect.

Thank you for helping.
