My mid-2014 MacBook Pro A1502 EMC 2875 suffered some water damage. I replaced the SSD and it seems to be fine, however the serial number is not showing up. It's listed as unavailable in system information and crashes the Apple hardware diagnosis. Normally I'd be fine with this as the laptop is working great otherwise but I cannot login to iMessage or FaceTime.
I tried the Board Serializer but received the 460 error message - I read it does not work for newer MacBooks. Is there a way to trick the computer into thinking it has a serial to get FaceTime/iMessage working? If not, is there a tool I can use to re-serialize the board? I read about dumping the EFI and modifying using a hex editor to input the serial number - not really sure how to do that. Alternatively, can I just by a chip on eBay or somewhere to connect to the header or is that a bad idea?
Any input or thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks.
