hi all

i manged to remove the efi password from my macbook pro 2014 (black screen with white padlock) but now when i press the cmd + r it takes me to a white screen with the apple logo and message saying " Enter your system lock pin to unlock mac" looks like a four digit pin is required.

ive tried booting from a usb flash with el capitan installer but the loading bar takes ages and gets to the end but just stays there for hours.

ive laso tried pram reset but still the same.

any ideas?

you're almost there!

after removing EFI lock, you must reset NVRAM. the iCloud lock which prevents you from loading OS X is stored there.

Resetting NVRAM
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R.
Turn on your Mac.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys immediately after you hear the startup sound.
Hold these keys until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for a second time.

Tried that twice but still the same. after nvram reset it still finds external drive and progrresses to the apple logo with white loading bar. gets to the end after 20 mins and just sits there for good. no icloud pin lock this time.

i tried as a experiment to see if internet recovery worked and it dose. installed mavricks and it finished the installation without any issues but now this where it gets strange. it reboots after installing and switches to apple logo with a small progress wheel that just keeps spinning!!??

it feels like something is still there preventing me from

a) loading the installer from a flash usb
b) finishing the boot after mavricks install and reboot.

Hello friend, the way he describes it, seems to be in remote recovery mode!

1- If a normal HD, it is best to remove and and format with Windows, to delete the hard drive partitions, and then put back on the Mac, and format normally with the boot flash drive from El Capitan, and thus will be able to install system!

2 But for this before you install, you should set the time and date of the EFI system for time and day and the current year to be able to install the El Capitan normally!

3- You need to boot from the USB stick with El Capitan and when you open the menu, ma top bar between the terminal and the command "date" and set the time!

Ex: date 111019352016

October 11, 2016 at 19:35

4 If an SSD Flash, will have to put a bootable USB stick with Windows format the SSD Flash to delete partitions on SSD, and then continue with the installation of El Capitan, then follow the "3"

In all of my experience, all that you must do:

Remove EFI password
Reset nvram
Boot from USB install media
Erase storage partitions
Install new copy of OS X
Profit.

In the event that the battery has completely died, it is correct that you must set the correct system date otherwise you will error "packages not eligible for install".

Otherwise, you should be fine.

ok done the steps listed and even wiped efi chip and reflashed just incase.
same problem persists.
pendrive with el capitan press alt on statrup and choose ele capitan installer disk. this time macintosh disk is not there.

still hangs on apple logo and cannot go any further.

tested pendrive on another mac and no problems.

running out of ideas now?

Please remind me the model and emc of this macbook

Also, let's back it up:

How did you remove the password? Did you clean your own bin, or use a different one?

If you used an internet rom, where did you get it and did you clean the ME region?

The bin from here should have a clean ME region.

Did you get the correct ghz of your model?

Do you have a copy of your original firmware?

Can you boot it in safe mode?

@renejim:

What are you saying

This worked a treat! bin from repo may have bugs.

turning mac on was a lot quicker and everything felt more responsive after flashing the cleaned bin to bios chip.

thank you everyone for there input.

anyone who gets stuck with this in the future. msake sure you use your own .bin pulled from the mac and cleaned up.

That's great news.

I ALWAYS recommend to clean your own bin. The internet repo is a last resort situation.

The rom you downloaded must not have a clean ME region.

Congrats on getting it done!

I assume cleaning the ME region on the repo rom would've worked too

Hello,

I need your help please.

I encounter exactly the same problem as FALLENMASTER.

I took a .BIN from here for my macbook pro A1502 (2014)

I have done all that I need but I am at the same point as FALLENMASTER.

What should I do with my original firmware .BIN?

I am attaching it.

Thank you for your help.
