That Mid 2012 is a BGA chip and its nearly impossible to use a SOIC clip on it, I tried for weeks making adjustments to the legs on my pomona and never got it to work.
In addition, there are surface mounted components, small resistors near the efi chip that very well could get hooked by the clip and the possible unintentional removal of them

You need to either use a MBA Easy flash or full removal of the efi chip "NOT Advised" or attach the leads to a few pads/traces Again not advised if a noob as the risk of lethal board damage is high

I made the same mistake/attempts a year ago and never got that clip to find the efi chip, hence there is no recommendation here using one on the MBA that has a BGA. They worked fine on other non BGA chips

You can't use the SOIC clip on that MBA. You should help with a donation to get the new clip designed by "thaGHO5T" in to production phase HERE.

If I helped you buy me a latte!

So apple switched to BGA, but still left a header on the mobo and the bga chips can still be interfaced??? That's awesome lol..

Hey,

im finally able to read the EFI

my mba: A1466 (EMC 2559)

now i have a big problem. After read out the N25Q064A..3E 3 times and matching the hash
i deleted the $SVS as in the tutorial and wanted to write it back but it failed every time.

Erasing seams to doing right , writing sometimes failed to erase and goes with another erase function till Erase / Write success

but then flashrom wants to verify and then it failed all time

FAILED at 0x00007b00: Expected=0x3d, Found=0xff, failed byte count from 0x00000000-0x007fffff: 0x1ce6

one time i get the error after trying to verify
Erase/Write done.
Verifying flash ... FAILED at 0x00007b00! Expected=0x3d, Found=0xff, failed byte count from 0x00000000-0x007fffff: 0x1a90
Your flash chip is in an unknown state.

My MBA does not start anymore now. I trying to write the original Backup back but in the verifying process
Erase/Write done-
Verifying flash... FAILED at 0x00000f00! Expected=0x31, Found=0x01, failed byte count from 0x00000000-0x007fffff: 0x60bb
Your flash chip is in an unknown state.

in the Attachement the 2 files.

Read1.bin = my original
write.bin = my modified unlocked binary

Someone can help me ? Did i somethink wrong ? Are my EFI-Chip now damaged?

in the read process flashrom detected my chip
Found Micron/Numonyx/ST flash chip N25Q064..3E" (8192 kB, SPI).
This chip may contain one-time programmable memory. flashrom cannot read and may
never be able to write it, hence it may not be able to completely clone the contents of
this chip (see man page for details).

What does this mean ?

Thank you for your answers

now ive tested the process.

i erase the chip - function 0 failed after some time - function1 ERASE DONE

i read out the chip - open the bin - there are only ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ -> erasing works

i erase the chip again - no errors - ERASE DONE

i read out the chip again - open the bin - there are only ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ -> erasing works

i write done the original dumb - WRITE DONE - VERIFYING FAILED

i read out the chip - open the bin - some lines are missing - the original has 39750 and the current 39738 lines

Whats the Problem ?

Your problem is with the physical chip, you have to change that will not work with any programmer and we have tried the same with the raspberry, minipro and other. Change the chip!

I had the same problem with the A1466. I was getting the same problems you are. So I left the Mac alone for a few days and left it charging. I went back to it a few days later and the read/write and verify went smooth. I had a fully charged battery and left the battery connected to the board when I did the process. Be sure you have a good contact on the WP wire. The A1466's can be a pain in the arse.

hmn damn 1466 .... now after verifying i do the scan-n-patch method for my original dumb. I go through the tutorial.... I wrote it on the chip and VERIFYED. But my MBA didnt start at all. The FAN spin but nothing hapens..... i dont understand it :(

the funny is - all the failed trys the logicboard was connected to the battery and the charging cable was on

after i disconnected the battery and proofed all cables it goes smooth

The biggest thing here is you need to have a verified original to work with and I think that ship has sailed. You may need to search around for a dump to flash back to the board or even purchase a new chip as it does sound to have a corrupt sector, although I rarely see this.

today i have all the process done smoothly

Erase, Write and Verify without any Errors. But the Macbook Air didnt start..... the fan spins for short time and then stops

no beep - no display ... could it be that in the soldering process the traces be damaged on the board ? My dad soldered really carefully...

I think the fans spinning up and back down means you are good to go, but the ROM is still not right for your mac. The fans spinning up is a part of the initialization sequence in the EFI.

Did you use that efi firm that I uploaded?
I have many Mid 2012 1.8GHz i5 A1466 roms, most are from the 8GB model
If you need another, let me know
