Did you set your raspberry pi correctly? Thake a look at this link:

ghostlyhaks.com/forum/macbook/207-flashrom-install-on-a-raspberry-pi

Also, what is the model number of your Mac?

I hope that opening tool you have propping the logic board up isn't metal. If so, you could short some components out. I know from experience.
First, your cables look a little long to me. What are you powering the PI with?

Has this pi setup worked on other Macbooks?

Also, cd to the flashrom dir

then run this command
sudo flashrom -p linux_spi:dev=/dev/spidev0.0

I think the wires are to long and you are pulling to much power from the PI. Take a look at my setup below.

I can't trace all your wires but something doesn't look right.

Hi, I have the same model (more or less, logic board model 8203476-A) and the same problem spit out by flashrom, but instead of using the header and ghost's device to interface with the logic board I am using the pomona SPI clip. It attaches firmly to the MX25L6406E EFI chip on the inner side of the logic board, right underneath the header. However, I am not sure the metal parts are making contact with the clip, they are very tiny and I can't even imagine having to do soldering.

Also, I have a pi model A+ (pretty old but only one i could find).

I don't think Pomona clip will hook smd chip due to very tiny legs. I have one as well really can not work for this model.

Thanks

The issue is with your command. It is saying it failed to initialize the programmer because the programmer you gave it is incorrect :) You need to look at my tutorial and read the commands carefully.

The issue you are having is likely not the same as his, you just need to get a MBA Easy Flash (out of stock atm) and connect it to the heder as the qfn chip you are connecting that SOIC 8 clip lto is not going to make a connection at all.

I watched tutorial more than 20 times and spent money for what I must have eg Pomona clip, bus pirate, pi2, cable, breadboard and many more. What I have done is just exactly the same as tutorial but still can not get it. Please give me a hints if I missing on some progress.

Thank you

  1. Try and run the below command while connected to the chip.
  2. Make sure your pi is plugged into a 2a power supply.
  3. Make sure your wires are less than 20cm; 10cm is best.
  4. Make sure if you are using the MBA Easy Flash that it is on pinout 1.

All the above is assuming that you have followed my tutorial to a T.
sudo flashrom –r ~/efi/read1.bin -V -p linux_spi:dev=/dev/spidev0.0
